After previewing it in a series of two photos a couple of weeks back, Hyundai Motor finally pulled the wraps off the all-new Santa Fe SUV for 2019.
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe features a bold, new look highlighted by the brand’s new Cascading Grille design. The angular front face is made even more unique with the split-level Composite Light design which places the LED daytime running lights atop the LED headlight cluster. In profile, this mid-sized SUV features a bigger greenhouse (for improved visibility) while a strong character line that goes from the headlights to the taillights provide a taut shape. 19-inch alloy wheels with a diamond cut finish fit the top-of-the-line models. In terms of dimensions, it is larger in all aspects compared to the current Santa Fe: Length: 4,770 mm (+71 mm), Width: 1,889 mm (+ 10 mm), Height: 1,704 mm (+15 mm), and Wheelbase: 2,766 mm (+ 66 mm).
Inside, the Hyundai Santa Fe goes for a horizontal motif filled with more premium materials. The center-mounted “floating” screen has been tilted and positioned to reduce glare while the instrument cluster itself has been given a three-dimensional appearance. Hyundai has gone through lengths to bring up the Santa Fe’s room including the reduction of door map pockets and the relocation of the window switches. As with the current Santa Fe, it comes in either a 5-seater or 5+2-seater configuration.
The diamond-quilted seats and premium finishes is capped off by a premium audio system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Some variants even have a built-in Qi wireless charger as well as a 12-speaker Infinity sound system.
Under the hood, the Santa Fe features three choices of engines. The 2.4-liter gasoline direct injection 4-cylinder engine with 185 horsepower serves as the base model moving up to a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 232 horsepower. The 2.2-liter common rail direct injection is also on offer and this one makes 200 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 434 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. All engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic with available column-mounted paddle shifters.
Along with the advanced drivetrain, the 2019 Santa Fe also has improved handling and riding comfort thanks to detail changes done to the suspension. The biggest change is that the rear shock has been moved to an upright position improving its performance. A self-leveling suspension is also on offer as an option.
All-wheel drive variants of the Santa Fe come with Hyundai’s HTRAC system which uses an electronic, variable-torque-split-clutch with active torque control. The HTRAC system also offers three driver-selectable modes for a sportier driving feel by being more rear-biased.
Interestingly, Hyundai Motor has also announced that it will be re-segmenting the Santa Fe name. This 2019 Santa Fe will be called Santa Fe while the current seven-seater model (Grand Santa Fe) will be renamed Santa Fe XL for 2019. Its replacement, a larger three-row SUV will arrive at a later time under an all-new name.

DeleteThat's because of the demand of big engine gasoline cars in the US. In Australia, a 1st world country, those vehicled are currently being sold. Again, the US is a different market.
DeleteDi ba me fortuner na gas? If they sell the Fort in the US it is a lawsuit waiting to happen since it will surely fail in quick maneuvering (moose test) just like the Hilux it is based. All those vehicles can easily be configured to gas but it would not be competitive there. Even the great FJ failed in the US market
DeleteProbably because the US market prefers a more comfortable ride. These 3rd world SUVs are built for shitty roads. They may be jarring to ride but they sure aren't unreliable. Subukan mo yung mga outlander, santa fe, etc ibyahe sa muddy and unpaved road sa mga probinsya dito. Tignan natin kung di yan sumabit at masira.
DeleteYeah you're right the ppvs have a higher right but 99% of drivers of ppv do not even drive on unpaved roads and almost never go offroading. They mostly stay in the city or town roads

DeleteThe CX-9 still looks far more better in terms of sophisticated elegance. The Santa Fe's parts seems to have been designed by different people and put together.
DeleteThats your opinion. All mazda looks the same to me across their line up with their overused styling. Mazda isnt known for their elegance at all. And putting "sophisticated" is too much of a praise for an above average economy car. Hyundai's new Santa fe looks better than any CX9. But does it perform better than its rivals we shall see.

DeleteI agree on the front grille being overused, but it is a really attractive design language and if you look at other brands, they are now following suit.
For example, look at the new Hyundai Accent, it is basically a smaller Elantra based on looks. The Honda lineup is putting the Civic's front face even on the mobilio, the jetta and the polo, etc.
It would be unfair that only Mazda gets the brunt of criticisms of the corporate identity grille despite of others doing the same thing.
A thing of note is the infotainment screen mounted on the dash. Bmw did it first, nobody complaine, them mazda adopted it, many people complained, and now ford, hyundai, honda, and several others brands adopted it and nobody complains.
I wonder why? Hmm.
I have a santa fe md but I think the cx9 looks better than the new santa fe. What will tip the scales in favor of the santa fe though is its thriftier diesel and lower price

I've ridden most of Hyundai's lineup and was disappointed by the plastics used inside which felt so cheap. Most of the plastics on Mazda's passenger car lineup are high quality soft touch plastics. A far cry from the cheap plastic used on Hyundai's lineup.
You were referring to the Current Santa Fe, and judging from their current reputation, they would strip this bare here in the Philippines. Butthurt hyundai fanboi, if only their local distributor here is not HARI, they might have a fighting chance.
DeleteI also used their latest products, the Elantra and the Tucson as references of their interior quality. It feels so cheap inside, I cringed at the fact that they dared to even display those two cars in malls.

DeleteMaraming Santa Fe/Sorento na diesel sa Europe kung nakapunta na ka doon. Kung ibenta nila ang mga gawang Thailand/Indonesia sa US siguradong babagsak ang quality ratings ng mga Jap brands baka kulelat na sila.

DeleteDiesel engine lang naman malaking magkaiba sa US at Philippine market na Hyundai models. Hindi kasi mabenta ang diesel doon madalang lang gas station na nagdala ng diesel. Doon lang sa mga malaking cargo truck stations mostly available ang diesel. Pareho lang sila gawa sa South Korean factory using same production lines. Masasabi mo ba yan sa Jap car mo?

DeleteWe live in a free country where everyone is free to choose. No manufacturer is perfect esp with newer tech like dct. Afaik, honda fired its president a year ago or so due to extensive quality problems. Maybe that's why they're below average in quality now

DeleteI have always bet that korean diesels mainly competes with European diesel in terms of performance. Japanese has never been in the same league, in terms performance e.g power/cc.
AFAIK, the Hyundai's 2.2 diesel engine block is also used for marine applications. Which also goes to say how robust the platform must be.

ReplyDeleteOMG, if you like it, then like it. if you dont, then dont guys. US is different market ? every market is being same nowadays. US has diesel market, but it is too strict to push them to sell diesel like vw fake spec happened. Fortuner is South-east based model, and ofcourse it is based on south-east people culture and style of driving. Santa-fe is world-wide based. so this car, concept of driving might not be right for you.
ReplyDeleteThe presence of this SUV in the Phil. market is good for customers. It keeps the makers of Asean SUVs on their toes. Btw, the current crop of SUVs being sold in Asean markets would have a hard time passing the emission and safety tests of the US.
