UPDATED: Nissan Philippines Upgrades Navara for 2018

UPDATE: We have the post-TRAIN prices of the 2018 Navara (2/26).

After declaring the start to the pickup truck wars in 2015, the Nissan Navara is now the country’s third best-selling model (they narrowly lost to the Ford Ranger by year-end 2017). Their thirst for success has motivated Nissan to give their Navara an edge this 2018. How? By giving it some Nissan Intelligent Mobility features.

Hiding in plain sight at the ongoing Nissan Mobility Tour is the upgraded 2018 Nissan Navara. While still not considered a midcycle refresh by Nissan standards, the Navara does get some “technical upgrades” to welcome the Lunar New Year.

It still looks like the current Navara (likely the reason why some automotive journalists missed spotting the upgrade entirely), but focus your eyes on the Nissan badge and you’ll see a small camera peeking at the bottom. It’s the same thing with the side mirrors and the tailgate handle—there are small cameras neatly packed in there. What gives, you ask? Well, that signals the arrival of Around View Monitor for the Nissan Navara. Similar to its setup on the X-TRAIL, it display a 360-degree bird’s eye view by stitching the imagines generated by the 4 cameras around the car. It can also display the right-side curb view making parallel parking easier. It’s currently confirmed to be standard equipment on the top-of-the-line Navara VL model and likely the Sport Edition model as well.

Aside from Around View Monitor, the Navara VL also boasts of more luxury appointments. The 2018 Navara VL gets a leather steering wheel, leather-like door moldings, and full leather seats. The driver also gets to enjoy the convenience of power adjustment to his seat.

Mechanically, the Navara remains the same for 2018. It’s still powered a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder YD25DDTi engine. With a variable geometry turbocharger, it generates 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. The transmission options remain a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic. Like before, the VL model receives a shift-on-the-fly 4x4 system, dual SRS airbags, Limited Slip Differential (LSD), Vehicle Dynamics Control with hill decent control, hill start assist, and Active Brake Limited Slip.

Since the upgraded Nissan Navara cleared customs before January 1, 2018, it’s still subject to pre-TRAIN prices. The best bit of news though is that Nissan has decided to freeze the prices which means these upgrades can be had for essentially the same price of a pre-upgraded 2017 Navara now implemented the reduced prices for the 2018 Navara. Prices have been reduced anywhere between 5 to 10 percent depending on the exact model. See table below:
  • Navara 4x2 6MT – P 917,000
  • Navara 4x2 6MT Calibre – P 952,000

  4. Why Nissan why? sports ed for el calibre 4x2 and vl 4x4 have no AVM.. and yes, they should've updated the lousy infotainment as well.. they should also included, at least a touchscreen and a back camera. although they chopped their price from 1.3m to 1.2m for the el calibre 4x2 sports ed.. but still :(

  7. The Ford Ranger is still the best pickup. The Navara feels outdated and boring compared to the Ranger. Not to mention the lack of equipment found on the Ranger.

  14. Hello, very helpful article! I just got my Nissan Navara 4x4 EL 2018. Does it have the same power and torque with VL variant which is 190 and 450? My agent said they have the same specs 190 and 450, but I read in their latest brochure that 4x4 EL has 163 power and 403 torque. Thanks

    1. It does have the same engine, but with 2 states of tune. The 163 horsepower, 403 Nm of torque figure is correct. Only the VL models have the 190 horsepower, 450 Nm of torque output.

  17. If you preferred comfort especially long drive choose navarra but if you like porma pero sacrifice mo yong comfort buy ranger. Kapag ranger kasi gamit mo super tagtag yan kapag walang karga sa likod kasi it was design to carry heavy loads. Yong navarra parang suv lang pero can withstand 1ton load capacity.

    1. I own both, i have a ford ranger wildtrak that ive been using for 3 yrs, and late last year i bought the navara calibre a?t. I felt right away that the ford ranger is far superior pickup than the navara, in terms of handling, power, comfort it is far better pick up, the only thing that the navara have going for it is it's being a more economical option from other competitors, thats it

  21. I bought a nissan navara calibre late last year at nissan shaw blvd., and when i had it serviced last week the service attendant told me it has a leak in both rear shock absorders, and that they are not covered by warranty. It is not even a year and this is how they treat their buyers, Is this what we can expect from nissan? Sell you a sub par vehicle at a fraction of the cost of other competitors and when it breaks down you cannot claim it on warranty even if the warranty has not expired yet. Anyone have this experience?

  22. i was surprised to note that one dealer in the province uses new units for test drives. is this also true for other NISSAN dealers? in this case, i may be purchasing a vehicle which have been depreciated by numerous test drives. Isuzu and Ford dealers have separate units for test drives, why cant NISSAN emulate that?
