The Ertiga introduced the Suzuki brand to many customers, particularly those wanting a good handing but practical small MPV. Naturally, the Japanese carmaker pulled all the stops as it introduced the all-new 2018 Suzuki Ertiga at the Indonesia International Motor Show.

Just like its predecessor, the Ertiga shares its platform with the sporty Swift and Dzire. This all-new model does the same as it migrates to the HEARTECT platform. Dimensionally, it’s longer (+130 mm), wider (+40 mm), and taller (+ 5 mm) with the wheelbase staying the same. Luggage space is also much larger: with the third row up, it’s up 18 liters (153 liters), with third row down, it’s up 50 liters (550 liters), and with second AND third row folded, it goes up to 803 liters.


Design-wise, the 2018 Ertiga takes on a more MPV-like silhouette with a taller, more angular front-end. At the side, it gets a more defined character line as well as a blacked-out D-pillar (aka “floating roof” look)—something prevalent in the other players in this category.

Inside, the top-of-the-line Ertiga continues Suzuki’s excellent value-for-money proposition by having features such as push-button start/stop, wood grain trim, ventilated cup holders, and a multi-information display.

Power comes from a Euro 4 compliant K15B 1.5-liter gasoline engine. Fitted with variable valve timing, it makes 105 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm—an increase of 10 horsepower and 8 Nm from the previous 1.4-liter motor. Like before, the transmission options remain a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Suzuki reckons this model can go up to 18 km/L.



Safety-wise, the 2018 Ertiga gets dual SRS airbags, ABS, and even electronic stability control.

The all-new Ertiga will be manufactured and sold first in Indonesia, where small MPVs account for 30 percent of automobile sales, with other markets including the Philippines to follow.
