Read our first impressions here (5/29).
After a record growth of 48 percent last 2017, Nissan officially introduced its much-anticipated entry into the mid-sized SUV segment: the all-new 2018 Terra. Dubbed as Nissan’s game changer, the Terra features a tough, modern design that is built on the brand’s off-road heritage. According to Nissan Philippines President, Ramesh Narasimhan, “The Terra is built to bring the exceptional to your everyday. It is made to make each day an adventure.”
Apart from its authentic on-road and off-road capability, the new Nissan Terra provides a no-compromise package of features. Its reinforced chassis and five-link coil spring rear suspension system work together to ensure strength, durability, comfort, and convenience. It has a 4-wheel drive with rear differential locking system, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist to allow more control over the wheels during 4x4 situations.
Power comes from the 2.5-liter YD25 turbo diesel engine making 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. The available transmissions are a 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic.
Similar to the new generation of Nissan vehicles, the Terra comes with the Nissan Intelligent Mobility system, with technologies like Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, and Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection. There is also the addition of the Smart Rear View Mirror that allows the driver to see images from a rear-mounted camera with the press of a button.
In terms of aesthetics, the exterior V-motion grille gives the Terra a streamlined look from the front, while the “boomerang” LED headlamps accentuate its sharp and commanding appearance. The sleek roofline flows from the front fender to the rear, where the tail lights add to its dynamic look. Completing the exterior are 18-inch allow wheels, designs to create exceptional driving both on and off road.
Inside, the Terra is as roomy as it looks. It seats seven, comfortably, and boasts of easy passenger mobility with its first in class second row one-touch remote fold and tumble seats. It offers one of the highest loading capacities and more rear space; with luxury details like premium, cushiony leather seats, advanced air conditioning system, ambient lights, and an overhead entertainment system (in the top variant).
Nissan dealerships across the Philippines will begin accepting pre-orders and reservations starting June 1, 2018 with customer deliveries to start by August 2018. The Terra comes in 5 variants starting with the 2.5 Mid 4x2 6MT (P 1,499,000), 2.5 Mid 4x2 7AT (P 1,615,000), 2.5 High 4x2 7AT (P 1,697,000), 2.5 Premium 4x2 7AT (P 1,899,000), and topping off with the Premium 4x4 7AT (P 2,096,000).

What model was shown on these pics? The dashboard looks kinda boring.. Otherwise look nice overall
ReplyDeleteThis looks to be the 4x2 High.
DeleteDecent specs, it actually trumps the overpriced yet underspec'd Fortuner. But has an ugly interior design most especially the dashboard and the steering wheel.
ReplyDeleteBland exterior design, boring interior design, decent specs-for-the-price compared to the overhyped bestseller, too late the hero... Anyone in the market for a 7-seater Turd World midsize diesel SUV has already bought one... There is such a thing as market timing and awareness.
ReplyDeleteA 2M SUV and it still has rear drum brakes, Nissan is copying Toyota in this aspect, haha. Wait 2 years and the MMC would have disc brakes for an increase in SRP. Lulz.
ReplyDeleteJust like the Fortuner. It has disc brakes now, but yeah there was an increase in price.
DeleteHow's the third row space? Like a Trailblazer or a Montero?
ReplyDeleteWe’ll try it in a bit. Stay tuned for our first impressions.
Deletethat blaupunkt head unit is the totl version? also at least all variants have 6 airbags
ReplyDeleteYup. Different models though for the Blaupunkt head units.
DeleteI'm yawning, nothing to excite about this Terra. It is boring. Looks too much like the Navara which is getting old. Nissan should have designed a totally different look like what Toyota did to the Fortuner which doesn't look like the HiLux. But then again this is Nissan, it's not a surprise. Btw, the interior sucks too. And may I ask the author, which variant, if any, have the paddle shifter already?
ReplyDelete@10:54am, yawning daw.. Says the new suv is boring and looks old just because it has a similar face with its pickup counterpart.. Does this also mean that the mu-x, everest and trailblazer all are boring and look old since they also share the similar face with their respective pickup counterparts? Ang oa ng post eh. -_-
DeleteOkay lang sana if the similar face is good-looking to begin with. Eh it looks old & uninspired na nga in the pickup, gagayahin pa sa SUV. The Everest is the best-looking among those 3 above, and there are enough differences with the Ranger, which already looks good. It seems most Jap brands either design a conservative look, or a TH, "futuristic" anime robot look.
DeleteWhat's the size of the infotainment screen?
ReplyDeleteNice try by nissan... but might not be enough to topple the segment leader... could have been priced competitively but sales nuts think if they go low, consumers would think their product is inferior than the competitor... at least this is an orig LHD (made in china?)
ReplyDeletePlease review the New Toyota Wigo and Yaris please :)
ReplyDeletejust curious.. if this is automatic transmission why is there 3 pedals? i was assuming it was a parking brake but i saw a lever on the side.
ReplyDeleteotherwise ill tip my hat to nissan for giving 6 airbags though
Don't get confused. Some of the pics are from the entry level manual
DeleteIt's not ugly just boring. I don't think this will matter to the market leaders. Poor Nissan always the runt of the litter.
ReplyDeleteGame-Changing? Really? LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis thing would be competing with the Mu-X for most boring exterior & interior design. Game-changing my foot.
ReplyDeleteBland interior particularly the dash. Still rear drum brakes. But at least they're generous with airbags. Glad that there is a rear diff lock.
ReplyDeleteHere are my comments:
ReplyDelete- Exterior might not be attractive, but it is not bare. There is chrome everywhere across all variants, no painted grille nor black door handle and side mirrors.
- Interior might be bare but all what you need is there. Urethane steering wheel instead of leathers, then manual aircon instead of automatic climate those are not necessary for a vehicle, they just add convenience and style and take note, it's a Nissan, it has a cool aircon.
- You can't get that powerful engine at those prices.
- It offers many safety features like 6 airbags, 4 eye sensors
For me, it might not as sophisticated and attractive as we expected but it is a very practical SUV and, it might not offer some features but at least it offers necessary features at lower price.
There's no such thing as a perfect vehicle. It's what the vehicle offers as standard equipment to it's price that and the usefulness of those that buyers should consider. Nissan can't seem to get it right. Yes' it offers 6 airbags but then it scrimped on the seatbelts by using 2 point or lap belts. Seatbelts are the first line of defense in a collision though airbags are considered strong complements to it. So Nissan's effort in the safety department seem to cancel each other.
DeletePowerful engine? Many, Montero, Chevy and Everest have them too at that price point.
If you have to consider practicality which means usefulness of the equipment offered, the most practical for me is the Montero. From the engine 178hp, the topnotch 8 speed tranny, the nifty paddle shifter and the standard electronics as standard at a very competitive price. These
are more practical than what this new entrant is offering. Intelligent Mobility? The all around cameras is nice but do we really need too many cameras aside from a good backing cam? We only have two eyes you know. Like the lane depart, forward warning sensors and cams that could be distracting already. It's more of an irritating redundancy than a necessary equipment to have.
And looking at the pics of the, I presumed, the highest variant tested by the author which is a 4x4. I doubt it even has a paddle shifter which every auto drivers want to have.
@Anonymous 9:48 AM
DeleteAh yes, that is true, if you consider the TOTL model, Montero Sport wins, that is also my very choice, but how about when you look the base models of every Midsize, SUVs??? Most people would choose the base model since they are more affordable. We'll I think I missed to mention that I am preferring the base models hehe.
Continuation at Anonymous 3:06 PM (same person here hehe :-))
DeleteHmmm, that is just my opinion, I just based on the specs of Terra, but I won't choose it anyway, I don't like it, especially its TOTL 4x4 models, I would rather choose either Montero Sport or Fortuner for 4x4 models but for 4x2 MT, I'll choose either mu-X or Fortuner. I always include Toyota in my choices hehe.
Montero or fortuner? Eww, too many on the streets already, although i have to say that the fortuner is one of the best looking ppvs that i like out there. Too bad, it's just overpriced and comes with lesser features over its competitors. The MS, on the other hand, still has that weird tail light design and is the most cramped of the bunch but it specs are good, i admit. In terms of sales, I've read that it overtook its nemesis the fortuner just this Q1 2018. Don't know if this will continue to improve though.
Delete@Anonymous 11:42 PM
DeleteHow about the mu-X?
So what midsize SUV is best for you?
WOW, ASTIG ITO, GUSTO KO NITO!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOthers will hate its exterior and interior, others will not, it depends on the person's perception but based on the specs, this one is something to consider.
Hahaha, ikaw talaga kabayan, galing mong magpatawa!
DeleteHaha, owned.
Delete@ Anon May 31, 11:28-31pm. Dude, try to be civilized on your comments and stop using words like the one you used on your May 31,11:31pm comment. It simply shows zero character and that you're maleducated. Tsk! What a pitty.
DeleteThat's pity by the way.
DeleteHaha, kilala ko ung isa sa inyo???? I might have encountered one of you in the mu-X article about Isuzu mall tour.
DeleteAnonymous June 3, 2018 at 7:11 PM
DeleteTahan na, wag ka nang umiyak lol. Wala kang alam sa kotse, bungol hahaahaha. Santa fe chikot mo? pAnU mO nAsAbI? eDi wOw hAhAhA.
At civilized?
Ok? Labyu!
How many liters is the fuel tank? It's not indicated in the specsheet..
ReplyDeleteI just saw this and I didn't have the time to ask this during the press con. Likely? Around 76 liters.
DeleteSir Uly, what colors does it offer?
ReplyDeletewhat is the fuel tank capacity of terra?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the best choice among these Japanese SUVs? Fortuner, Montero Sport, mu-X or Terra?
ReplyDeleteWhich of the following should I choose:
ReplyDeleteIsuzu mu-X 1.9 LS-A MT
Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2.4 GLX MT
Nissan Terra 2.5 Mid MT
Toyota Fortuner 2.4 G MT?
You can ask yourself the following questions to narrow down your list:
Delete1. How often do you floor the gas pedal and exceed 100kph on one stoplight over to the next? If you do it more than 5x a week then consider the most torque. If not pick any with at least 400nm of torque.
2. Is your parking space narrow or you live in a condo with basement garage? If you do consider the lowest turning radius and width.
3. Do you often pass through flooded and bad roads? Then get the highest wading depth and ground clearance.
4. Do you have passengers most of the time or you have a driver? Then prioritize ride comfort, NVH, width, wheelbase, usb charging ports and ac vents.
5. Do you plan to use the car until the next decade? Then choose the lowest maintenance and running cost (PMS, mileage, parts). If not choose the highest resale value.
6. Do you or your best friends and relatives prefer a particular brand? Then why are you still asking lol. If not test drive them all and choose what you and your passengers prefer.
The local model would have looked a lot better if it did have the big spoiler that the chinese model has. Hope it would be available soon once it reaches the dealers.
ReplyDeleteI can see the attraction to manual if you're a manual fan. I too am a manual guy. But sadly, the traffic will wreck a manual guy's passion. It's just too much of a hassle to drive one in heavy traffic. You buy an SUV for what? Of course, comfort and necessity like high ground clearance to fight flood, not to work out your leg muscles. So I don't get it, why some would still consider buying a manual.
ReplyDeleteBut anyway as to Anon 10:11 question which one to buy. Buy the MUX manual it's the cheapest.
I gotta love how local motoring journos talk about "impressive prices" and then only write about the TOTL model and how it has a lot of features, when in reality most buyers get the base or mid-tier trims. The bang-for-the-buck prize still goes to the Everest Titanium Premium, the Terra's base model price is still higher than a base model Mu-X, and the mid-tier's features aren't really unique compared to the mid-tier Everest or Montero.
ReplyDeleteNissan, it's time to make your diesel MPV that will be a rival to Innova since there are the Navara, Terra and Urvan plus the Almera an Sylphy that are similar to most of Toyota's line up. Maybe introduce a Juke with manual transmission or replace the Juke haha.
