Mazda Calls Out to Owners with Defective Takata Airbags

Bermaz Auto Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles in the country, is once again renewing its call to owners of specific Mazda models sold in the Philippines to have their vehicle’s Takata airbag inflators replaced. This follows a continuing global recall issued by the airbag manufacturer, along with other car brands, affecting millions of vehicles worldwide.

The airbag inflator replacement campaign for Mazda Philippines has been an ongoing preventive safety measure since December 2016. Registered owners of affected vehicles have already been contacted by its 20 dealerships nationwide at their last known addresses and contact details. So far, 744 Mazda vehicles have had their inflators replaced since the recall campaign had begun. Included in the safety recall are the following models with their corresponding VIN codes and specific manufacturing dates:

Mazda Philippines is once again requesting the owners of the specified models to get in touch with the nearest authorized Mazda dealership to further ensure that all affected vehicles are brought to the dealership for the required Takata airbag inflator replacement. Owners of affected vehicles are asked to confirm with the dealerships whether their car’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is included in the recall campaign and if so, to schedule an appointment for the replacement of the airbag inflators. The service will only take about an hour and is free of charge to the customer.

“We care deeply for our customers and their safety, regardless of the age of their Mazda, or where they bought their cars” says Steven Tan, president and CEO of BAP. He adds, “Most important is to reach  them and persuade them to bring the affected cars in to replace the inflators. We urge the owners of the said vehicles to get in touch with the Mazda dealership nearest to them so they will know whether their vehicles are covered by this very important safety campaign.”
