When Is the All-New Volvo S60 Coming to the Philippines? (w/ 17 Photos)

Volvo is finally severing its final ties with the Ford Motor Company with the introduction of the SPA-underpinned 2019 S60 mid-sized premium sedan. With this move, the Swedish carmaker is finally able to say goodbye to the Ford-derived P3 platform (aka Ford EUCD platform) and move to something completely bespoke to Volvo.

Shared with the S90, V60, and XC90, Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) gives the S60 a platform with industry-leading safety ratings. In addition to being one of the safest cars on the road, the S60 is bound to carry cutting-edge infotainment and luxury features as well.

Built exclusively at Volvo’s new South Carolina assembly plant (the carmaker’s first US manufacturing plant), the S60 made news for being the first-ever Volvo not to be made available with a diesel engine. As such, it will use only the brand’s turbocharged and supercharged gasoline engines in three flavors: T5, T6, and T8.

The 2019 S60 will also emphasize driver involvement and will feature technologies such as active chassis and drive modes to offer a more engaging performance. Plus, it will also offer a performance handling upgrade courtesy of Volvo’s electric performance arm, Polestar. This model will carry the moniker “Polestar Engineered.”

And being a Volvo, the S60 is designed with safety in mind. It will come with City Safety with Autobrake Technology that automatically engages the brakes to mitigate oncoming collisions not just with vehicles but with pedestrians, cyclists, and even large animals. Furthermore, it’ll offer Pilot Assist which supports the driver with steering, acceleration, and braking on well-marked roads at up to 130 km/h.

Now comes the most important question: when is the all-new Volvo S60 arriving in the country? When asked, Volvo Philippines said that the earliest arrival date for their premium mid-sized sedan would be in 2019. Currently, Volvo Philippines said that they’re concentrating their efforts on the award-winning XC60 and the all-new XC40 which is set to arrive in the next few months.

In the meantime, the current model S60 is being run out and with that, they’re offering it at zero percent interest for 36 months.

  1. The Volvo 900 Series is a range of executive cars produced by the Swedish manufacturer Volvo Cars from 1990 to 1998. The 900 series was introduced in 1990 to replace the 700 series from which it derived. I do not actually know when this automotive repair manuals Volvo facility started but it sure is a good one.
