All Sub-Compacts Should be As Stylish as the Mazda2
All carmakers should take a page from Mazda’s playbook. Refusing to make boring cars, the Mazda has been experimenting with different styling bits for the Mazda2 sub-compact. Known as the Demio in Japan, they have been offering the “Style Collection” series over there.
The latest one to join the series is “Mist Maroon” and Mazda describes it as a “car that expresses a high-quality adult’s world view.” And because responsible adults care a lot about their sun exposure, the Mist Maroon comes with a special Super UV cut glass for the front windows which cuts off ultraviolet rays and infrared rays.
If that wasn’t cool enough, this Mist Maroon edition features a new kind of suede-like artificial leather on the instrument panel and seats. Called Granlucus, it’s supposed to give an upscale look and feel to the Mazda2’s interior. Oh, and it’s worth mentioning that the seats offer a quilted design along with a contrasting deep red and blue-gray stitching.
Along with this special edition model, Mazda has announced that the 1.3-liter Skyactiv-G is bidding adieu in the Japan-model Mazda2. Instead, all models there get either a 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G or 1.5-liter Skyactiv-D.
All in all, Mazda Japan has made 6 “Style Collection” series Mazda2 including the “Noble Crimson” with its deep red fabric seats and white door/dash inserts, and the “Tailored Brown” with its tan-colored, quilted seats and tan-colored door/dash inserts. You can check out the photos below and be impressed at what Mazda’s done for sub-compacts.
Oh, and while the Philippine market doesn’t get the Mazda2 Style Collection, distributor Bermaz Auto Philippines is replicating that with their very own Mazda2 Premium Series. The current models in the Premium Series are the Java Edition, Katana Edition, and Crimson Edition. In the past, the company also offered the Kabuki Edition and Midnight Edition.
