Ferrari is coming up with its 50th drop-top model so naturally, it had to be something special. Meet the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider.
Taking over where the coupe version left off, the 488 Pista Spider marries aerodynamics efficiency with the exhilaration of a drop-top sportscar. Adopting Ferrari’s most powerful V8 ever, the 3.9-liter twin turbo V8 makes 720 horsepower and 770 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h comes in just 2.85 seconds while 200 km/h arrives in 8 seconds flat.
An uncompromising choice of materials means a lightweight car. Using generous carbon fiber and Alcantara throughout (the carpets have even been replaced by aluminum foot plates and the driver’s door handle is now a simple strap), the 488 Pista Spider weighs in at just 1,380 kilograms.
Outside, the 488 Pista Spider features a characteristic central livery which runs the whole length of the car, expanding only towards the rear where it finishes at the end of the rear wing next to the spoiler. The new diamond-finish 20-inch wheels, with a novel 10-spoke design is a modern interpretation of Ferrari’s traditional “berlinetta-style rims.” An optional carbon fiber wheel cuts 20 percent more weight over the standard forged alloys.
Honed on the race track, the 488 Pista Spider is directly derived from Ferrari’s 488 Challenge racing cars. As such, this car delivers seamless combination of razor-sharp acceleration, braking efficiency, lightning-fast gear shifting, precise steering, and superb stability and handing. This was achieved partly thanks to a new dynamics control system: the FDE or Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer.
Ferrari, through its Philippine distributor, Autostrada Motore is now taking reservations for the 488 Pista Spider.
