Grab Partners with Government Agencies to Prevent Crime
Meet the latest in Manila crime prevention: Grab. As part of their “Safer Everyday” campaign, Grab is now going “all cop” thanks to its partnership with various government agencies.
“Safety in the TNVS industry should be a collaborative effort between transport network companies, government agencies, driver-partners, and passengers,” says Brian Cu, Grab Philippines’s Country Head. “Our passengers and driver-partners deserve a safer ride-sharing industry. We are humbled to raise the bar for safety in TNVS.”
Already aligned with the Department of Transport (DOTr)’s vision to reduce traffic accident death rates by 20 percent by 2020, Grab is going further and will form a pool of First Responders from its driver-partner community to form an accident response team. Furthermore, the ride-sharing giant will also equip its vehicles with first-aid kits and safety training guides as well; four hundred kits have already been deployed with more soon to follow.
Grab will also do their part in fighting crime. Collaborating with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group (PNP – HPG), Grab driver-partners will not only set the standard in drug prevention, but will also assist in criminal response as well.
Grab together with the PDEA and LTFRB will synchronize their efforts to interdict and prevent the delivery of packages that may contain illegal drugs. The partnership also aims to identify and report timely intelligence information for anti-drug operations as well as keep TNCs drug-free. PDEA will take the lead role in conducting overall investigation, arrest, and filing of drug cases and will support Grab and LTFRB in conducting training and seminars for drug prevention.
Meanwhile, their partnership with the PNP – HPG goes beyond anti-criminal seminars. Grab will provide PNP – HPG with information related to possible criminal acts that may happen within the platform. PNP – HPG will also provide technical support and response in anti-criminal act operations.
Aside from nationwide thrusts such as these, Grab is also working closely with local governments as well. For instance, volunteer Grab drivers are providing a safer environment for women in the Quezon City area by helping the city government identify “trouble spots” using the “Safetipin” app.
With at least 50,000 drivers on the road at any given time, Grab driver-partners are pretty much our eyes and ears on the road. Utilizing them to prevent and reduce crime in Metro Manila is actually a very good and timely move.
