Toyota Prius Recall Hits Philippines As Well
Toyota’s global recall for its hybrid Prius models has finally reached the Philippines. An advisory from Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) confirms that several Prius models have an issue with its wiring harness, which, if left unchecked, can cause a risk of fire.
Toyota Motor Philippines outlined that the engine wiring harness connected to the hybrid Power Control Unit could have its wiring harness cover connection wear over time causing an electrical short circuit. In this condition, if sufficient heat is generated, it poses a risk of fire.
As a preventive measure, TMP will inspect and, if necessary, replace the engine wiring harness at no cost to the customer. The carmaker did not disclose how long the procedure will take.
The carmaker says 82 Prius units produced from November 27, 2015 to September 27, 2017 are affected by the recall and that they’ve taken the necessary steps to contact owners through Official Notification Letters.
