The First-Ever 2019 UX Crossover is Your Gateway to Lexus Ownership (w/ Specs, 25 Photos)

Lexus Philippines is offering a new gateway into the Japanese luxury brand with the introduction of their first-ever subcompact crossover, the UX. Made for the modern urban explorer, it blends fresh and contemporary style with luxury and dynamism.

The exterior is original and imaginative, designed with the motif of “Cross-Create.” This combines various, mostly opposing elements to create a harmonious new look. In the case of the UX, the sheet metal blends the robustness of an armored vehicle with the agile look of a race car. The result is a crossover with a highly condensed design, brought to life with 13 colors including three unique ones: Blazing Carnelian, Terrane Khaki, and Celestial Blue.

Inside, the UX takes the Japanese concept of Engawa which blurs the boundaries between exterior and interior. From the driver’s seat, designers made the hood look as if it passes through the windshield and connects to the upper section of the instrument panel, while the instrument panel’s upper section appears to extend beyond the windshield to the exterior. The UX is also the first Lexus vehicle to use a new interior trim graining inspired by washi or Japanese paper. The company also takes pride in personalization and offers the UX in eight different color combinations including the newly-developed Cobalt and White Ash.

Underneath, the UX is the first Lexus to ride on the new Global Architecture Compact (GA-C) platform that delivers high structural integrity, low center of gravity, and excellent ride quality and stability. It has MacPherson Struts at the front and a trailing wishbone at the back which are specially-tuned for agility and comfort. It boasts of a class-leading 5.2-meter turning radius.

The available F Sport model ups this with a high-response linear solenoid-type AVS that achieves a sportier driving experience with no detriment to ride quality.

Furthermore, various elements were shaped for high aerodynamic efficiency such as the rear-end which improves rear stability when turning and driving in crosswinds and the wheels which are specially designed to help keep the brakes cool and reduce wind resistance.

Made for the city, but flexible enough for long drives, the Lexus UX is powered by a new-generation 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 168 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a Direct Shift-CVT transmission.

The 2019 Lexus UX is now available locally in two variants: the UX 200 and UX 200 F Sport with a suggested retail price of P 2,478,000 and P 3,048,000 respectively.

  1. Hi Uly, what are your thoughts on the hybrid variant not making it here? The hybrid NX composed of around 20% of the NX owners, but the hybrid variant of the UX is more powerful and efficient variant it has.

I'm looking forward to your review on this one, Uly. The NX was a disappointment when it came to seat comfort and quietness, things we associate with Lexus. If this drives even better than the NX while retaining the Lexus-like Quietness and comfort, I'm sold.

    1. I don't speak for Lexus, but it makes sense for them to bring in the hybrid here. Perhaps though at a later time during to supply constraints (a typical first-year, all-new model problem). For now though, we just has the FWD 2.0-liter variants.

Expect the UX to be a even smaller than the already cramped NX due to its C-HR platform sharing. Cannot comment though on seat comfort and quietness because I haven't driven it yet though but the TNGA platform should make it feel more solid than the RAV4-based NX.
