Ford Continues Role as Model Corporate Citizen
Continuing its role as a responsible corporate citizen, Ford Philippines, through its Operation Better World, helped build new water facilities to benefit Gawid Kalinga communities while also lending support to farmers affected by Typhoon Ompong with a financial donation.
The new communal water facilities were constructed in time for Ford’s Global Caring Month celebrated annually every September. The new water facilities in GK Cabulacan in Sta.Catalina, Negros Oriental, GK Camposano in Brgy. Tabu in Dulag, Leyte, and GK Formoso in San Jose, Nueva Ecija will benefit over 170 families residing in remote areas, giving them access to safe, clean, and potable water.
Dealer employees from Ford Dumaguete, Ford Tacloban, and Ford Cabanatuan have volunteered to help construct the water facilities, rendering over 320 hours of community work.
Building a communal water system in GK communities was conceived when Ford Fund through Global Giving made available mini-grants for projects that will promote volunteerism during Ford’s Global Month of Caring. A US$15,000 (~ P 790,000) Global Giving grant supported the construction of the 3 new water facilities in the Philippines this year.
“We’re very happy to see the completion of the new water facilities in these GK sites that will provide families access to clean water. At Ford, we remain committed to help make a difference in the communities we serve with our continued efforts and initiatives to uplift the lives of those in need,” said Josie Gonzalez, AVP for government and corporate affairs, Ford Philippines.
In addition to the construction of the 3 communal water facilities, Ford also made a financial donation to help farmers affected by Typhoon Ompong.
The donation, amounting to US$ 25,000 (~ P 1,300,000) will provide livelihood opportunities to 30 farmers and their families to help them get back from their losses from the onslaught of the typhoon. The farmers take care of hectares of land and the grant will give them and their families access to a decent and more productive life.
“At the heart of rebuilding hope are the people who need to get back on their feet. At Ford Philippines, we strive to contribute to nation-building by providing grants that make a long-lasting impact to the communities in need. At the core of these grants is sustainability, ensuring that the funding will help change more lives for the better, now and in the years to come,” says Josie Gonzalez, AVP for Government and Corporate Affairs, Ford Philippines.
The funding will also be used to purchase two (2) boats to be used in future relief operations as well as to ferry students living in the remote areas to their schools.
