Mazda Found a Way to Make Its Interior More Scratch Resistant

One of the biggest pains owning a Mazda is their generous use of high-gloss piano black interior accents. While they look good, they seem to scratch very easily. In time, they’ll end up looking more like brushed black accents than high-gloss black ones. Mazda, it seems, has found a possible solution.

Starting with the 2019 Mazda3, Mazda will use a new, two-layer molding for its interior parts. Not only is this more durable than the current high-gloss piano black accent, but because it’s made of plant-based material, it’s more environmentally-friendly too.

Plus, the Japanese carmaker says that they’ll be able to play around with the surfacing, allowing a look of depth that’s otherwise not possible with conventional methods. Think something with a deeper look and/or shadow. Think of this as a win-win-win solution, then.

Looks like Mazda’s really pouring everything into the all-new Mazda3. 2019 can’t come soon enough.
