UPDATED: 2019 Hyundai Reina Undercuts Its Kia Twin (w/ Specs, Brochure)

UPDATE: We also included the brochure below (02/04).

There’s a different kind of Korean war brewing and that involves two recently launched sub-compact sedans to hit the Philippine market. Less than 12 hours after Kia Philippines unveiled the Soluto, Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc., fired back and introduced the Reina.

Sharing the very same mechanicals, the Hyundai Reina is underpinned by a platform related to the previous-generation Accent. With that, it has independent MacPherson Struts upfront and a Coupled Torsion Beam Axle at the back. Both models are also identical in terms of dimensions with the sole exception of the Reina being 5 millimeters wider.

Under the hood, the Reina is powered by a 1.4-liter MPI engine with Dual-CVVT technology. It has 95 horsepower and 132 Nm of torque—the same exact power figures as its Kia cousin. It also comes available in a choice between a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed AT. Expect similar performance and fuel economy figures, but it’s worth noting that the Reina is slightly lighter (6 to 19 kilograms depending on the variant).

The Reina is available in a single variant (GL) and comes loaded with safety and convenience features. Apart from all-power amenities, it has dual SRS airbags and ABS with EBD as standard equipment. The Reina though is decidedly simpler in terms of overall specs. It doesn’t have front fog lamps and sports 14-inch steel rims with full covers. Inside, it makes do with a simpler 1-DIN stereo system.

What the Reina gives up in terms of luxury features though, it gives back in terms of price. Effectively throwing a spanner into Kia’s plans, the 2019 Reina comes in at P 598,000 for the 1.4 GL M/T and P 648,000 for the 1.4 GL A/T.

The Reina is now open for reservation at all Hyundai dealerships with delivers to commence by April.

  1. Glad to see that this has two airbags as standard. Who would buy the gasoline models of the Accent when this one is significantly cheaper while being better specced and similarly sized?

  2. The heat is on. Great for consumers. Three way battle now between Vios, Soluto and Reina. Hopefully this competition will extend to crossovers.

    2. Hyundai hasn't said but it looks like it'll be the same as the Soluto. It will have steel with full covers.

  5. Good news is that there will be another choice for a more affordable subcompact car aside from the dominant ugly looking Vios.

  6. The Kia Soluto comes with a touch screen display and keyless entry whilst, the Hyundai Reina is using the 90's infotainment system therefore, Kia Soluto is still cheaper.

  7. They also undercut the specs. Why don't they just remove the engine and replace it with pedals to keep the price lower.
