Peugeot Shows Off 400-Horsepower 508 Sedan Concept
Peugeot is readying a high-performance version of its 508 executive sedan that will, get this, be powered by a combination of a traditional gasoline engine with electric motors for added boost.
Dubbed the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered, it’s technically a concept for now, but it does confirm the French carmaker’s plans to develop a range of high-performance electric vehicles in the near future.
Starting with the 508 Hybrid, Peugeot engineers enhanced its performance by plopping in the 200-horspower Puretech 200 engine and pairing that with a 110-horsepower electric motor. If that’s not enough, they’ve also put in a separate 200-horsepower electric motor for the rear wheels as well. All in all, this all-wheel drive sedan can decimate the 100 km/h mark in just 4.3 seconds while its top speed is limited to 250 km/h. More than just raw power, the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered also has an 11.8 kWh battery which gives it a pure electric range of about 50 kilometers.
Showcasing that newfound performance, the car has undergone some redesign like the front bumper and its 3D-printed valance that directs incoming air towards the radiator and the new rear diffuser. There are also some aerodynamic enhancements such as flaps fitted to the subframe to reduce drag and streamlined winglets located on the quarter panels to help smoothen the air flow.
For the Geneva show, the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered will come with a specially designed “Selenium Gray” paint which changes in the light, carbon fiber door mirrors, and the Peugeot Lion badge in an anodized finish.
Inside, the concept features a mix of leather and Alcantara upholstery with Kryptonite and Onyx Black overstitching. It also has a touch-sensitive gear lever, a sporty asymmetrical compact steering wheel, and carbon fiber inserts. Alcantara also finds its way to the roof, A-pillars, and quarter panels while the Kryptonite finishing is found on the dashboard and door handles.
The innovative concept car marks the beginning of an important year for the carmaker, as it begins making the transition towards a fully-electrified range. They have committed to providing an electrified version across its entire range by 2023, with the first commercial Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) model, the e-208 set to arrive later this year.
