Peugeot is showing off its newest sub-compact hatchback, the all-new 208 which is meant to “re-energize” its presence in the small car market. With a choice of gasoline, diesel, and even all-electric drivetrains, this is the first visibile sign of the French carmaker’s direction to electrify their entire vehicle range in 5 years.

The all-new 208 is recognizable for its Peugeot family cues down to the large chrome grille, full LED 3-claw lighting signature at both ends, and the Peugeot lion on the front bumper. It uses a long hood and sculpted curves to provide a sporty silhouette.



Inside, the 208 takes on Peugeot’s new 3D i-Cockpit design with its compact multi-function steering wheel, configurable heads-up display, and a choice between a 7- or 10-inch HD touchscreen on the center console. Completing the look are satin chrome piano toggle switches.

Under the hood, the 2019 208 takes on powertrains all developed to limit carbon dioxide emissions. For now, the engines choices are either a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine with three states of tune (75, 100, 130 horsepower) and a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder diesel with 100 horsepower. Depending on the exact model, the transmissions available are either a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, or 8-speed automatic.



The headline though is that the 208 is now available as a full EV, too. Called the e-208, this version has a 100 kW (136 horsepower) electric motor and thanks to a 50kWh battery, it can cruise 340 kilometers in a single charge. The e-208 can be charged either from a normal house outlet or rapidly charged using a home- or public charging station.

The all-new 208 is built on Peugeot’s newest CMP platform and for that, it’s up to 30 kilograms lighter and comes with improved aerodynamics. It also comes with a suite of driver assistive features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Positioning Assist, Full Park Assist, and Automatic Emergency Brake Assist.


In the Philippines, Eurobrands Distributor, Inc., the official distributor of Peugeot brought in the hotted-up version of the 208—the 208 GTi. After that though, they’ve been fairly quiet on whether they’ll continue their plans to bring in more passenger cars, or if they’ll simply concentrate on their SUV/MPV line-up.
