Subaru is getting hit with another recall, this time to the tune of 2.26 million units or more than double its annual global sales.

Japanese newspaper Nikkei reports that the recall affects more than 306,700 units in Japan and 1.96 million overseas, including the Philippines.

Locally, Motor Image has confirmed that this recall affects the following models:

• MY2014-MY2016 Subaru Forester
• MY2011-MY2014 Subaru WRX (4-Door)
• MY2008-MY2016 Subaru Impreza
• MY2012-MY2017 Subaru XV

Subaru says that silicone gas from certain consumer products may seep through the housing of the brake light switch. When this occurs, functions related to the brake light switch such as the Brake Light, Transmission Interlock, Ignition Interlock, Vehicle Dynamics Control, and EyeSight (if equipped) will stop operating. The defect will also cause the brake lights to cease functioning, increasing the likelihood of accidental collisions.

Motor Image says affected vehicles will require a replacement to their brake light switch. All related parts are free of charge. The distributor also says that they will contact owners soon.

This recall follows Subaru’s massive recall concerning faulty valve springs, electric power steering components affecting units worldwide, and even the company’s own admission of falsifying safety-related data.
