The Toyota Supra's Ready to Go Racing

Toyota’s not done with the Supra just yet. After unveiling it for the first time in January and then telling everyone that the 2019 production run’s all spoken for, the Japanese carmaker says it’s ready to take its new sportscar racing with the Toyota GR Supra GT4.

Though it’s effectively a concept for now (the official name is Toyota GR Supra GT4, after all), the shows how Toyota’s new sportscar can easily shoe into “one of the world’s fastest-growing motorsports categories.”

No specs have been officially revealed, but Toyota did say that the production car’s foundations make for a great race car since it already has a lightweight body, a low center of gravity, and high rigidity. Oh, but the GT4 Concept does come with race specific parts like a roll cage, beefed up suspension and brakes, and of course, wings.

If it does make it to race tracks around the world, Toyota says customers will be able to purchase this racing specification car and go racing in both national and regional competitions spanning the globe. In one way or another, there are GT4 races held in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania.

For now though, Toyota has confirmed that the all-new Supra will compete in the grueling Nurburgring 24-Hour Endurance Race where it will compete in the SP8T class against the likes of the Nissan GT-R and even a couple of Volkswagen Golfs and Audi RS4s.
