Honda Announces Retrofit Kit for Honda Sensing Safety Tech
At its annual press meeting, Honda outlined its accomplishments towards their 2030 Vision. Aside from talk about increased electrification, the automaker also committed to improving the safety of its vehicles, and thus, will increase the availability of its Honda Sensing suite across more models. Peculiarly, this includes a retrofit kit.
Honda says its engineers are now at work developing a retrofit kit for vehicles that rolled out the assembly line without Honda Sensing installed. While Honda Sensing is a suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies that combine Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition, the retrofit focuses on preventing pedal misapplication.
Aside from the announcement of the retrofit kit, Honda says they are working on improving the performance of Honda Sensing using new technologies derived from their automated driving research. They have also committed to launching more electrified vehicles using its i-MMD hybrid technology as well as launching plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles.
Furthermore, with the fast-changing automotive landscape, Honda is also re-organizing its R&D division with two defined areas: one that focuses on future vehicles with “out-of-the-box thinking,” and one that zeroes in on developing existing products.
