The 2019 Toyota Vios Accounts for 25 Percent of All Passenger Cars Sold So Far
Care to guess the Philippines’s best-selling vehicle? It comes as no surprise that the Toyota Vios is the country’s best-selling vehicle, based at least on the May 2019 Automotive Industry Performance Report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI).
What is surprising though is the insurmountable lead the Vios has over the rest of the field. Out of the 50,097 passenger cars (PC) sold from January to May 2019, the Vios accounts for a quarter of it or 12,295 units. It is the only vehicle—passenger car or commercial vehicle that has sold more than 10,000 units so far this year.
Making the Vios’s run even more impressive is that its May 2019 sales figure is at an all-time high close to breaching the 3,000-unit mark which was its monthly average sales figure prior to the TRAIN Law’s implementation in 2018.
“We think that the passenger car segment is starting to gain momentum, and we’re hoping that it would achieve higher growth levels in the coming months,” said Ms. Cristina Arevalo, First Vice President for Brand & Product Planning of TMP.
“The Toyota Vios remains to be a preferred vehicle among Filipinos because of its great value and easy ownership and maintenance—backed by our commitment to quality, durability and reliability. Flexible and affordable financing schemes have been made available to customers—where car buyers can choose from low down payment or light monthly payments, plus other attractive deals that make owning a Vios easier on the pocket. Special offers to OFWs are also available,” added Arevalo.
Aside from the Vios’s strong year-to-date performance, the Hilux also remained strong for Toyota Motor Philippines, selling 8,723 units while the Fortuner, Innova, Wigo, and Hiace also contributing well to the carmaker’s 58,886 year-to-date tally.
