For the Price of a Vios, A Tuning Shop Can Make Your Toyota GR Supra Manual Dreams Come True
One of the major beefs people have (including us) with the 2020 Toyota GR Supra is that it’s made of BMW parts. Well, apparently relying on German technology has one unexpected perk: you can have it with a manual transmission.
Because the GR Supra uses BMW’s B58 3.0-liter inline-6 engine, a Texas-based tuning shop named European Auto Group (EAG) has figured that swapping out the 8-speed automatic for a 6-speed stick shift is all just a matter of flipping through the BMW parts catalog and getting the right one. It turns out, the conversion uses off-the-shelf components with the exception of the shift lever itself which is a custom-made part.
EAG is no stranger to converting automatic-only sportscars into manual ones; they’ve already done so with the Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Huracan. Of course, because the shop is highly specialized in doing the swap, it’s not going to be cheap. The swap costs around USD 12,000 (~ P 626,700) and takes 30-45 days to complete.
Still, the company is throwing in some tweaks to boost the GR Supra’s output to 425 horsepower and even their own 4-year / 50,000-mile (80,000-kilometer) warranty, so that is something.
