Here's Your First Official Look at Suzuki's New 3-row SUV: the XL6
With the popularity of small 7-seater MPVs being turned into SUVs, it was only a matter of time for Suzuki to join the fray. Well, the wait won’t be long as the compact car specialist is launching the XL6 on the third week of August.
Slated for the Indian market (for now), the XL6 is essentially a beefed up, raised Ertiga. That said, based on the teaser photo and sketch, it looks to gain a unique front-end that’s more aggressive, befitting its SUV positioning. The most unique part is undoubtedly the chrome trim that runs through the headlights.
The model designation itself, “XL6” is a nod to the Grand Vitara-based XL7 which was, in 1998, the least expensive three-row SUV on the market. Of course, the “6” in “XL6” points to Suzuki’s decision to fit second row Captain’s Seats as opposed to a traditional bench. This means, the Suzuki XL6 seats only 6 adults to the Ertiga’s 7—though it remains to be seen if the carmaker will also offer a bench second row as well.
Inside, the XL6 looks to be every bit like the Ertiga Black Edition with the large tablet-style infotainment system and air conditioning vents that run across the front passenger side of the cabin. It does receive a new brushed aluminum trim though. Expected features include partial leather seats, reverse parking camera, and cruise control.
Speaking about the drivetrain, it’s expected that the Suzuki XL6 will share the Ertiga’s 1.5-liter KB15 engine mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.
It’s too early to say whether Suzuki Philippines will bring in the XL6 for the local market. However, given the popularity of their Ertiga MPV (it’s currently the brand’s best-selling car), it makes sense for them to corner the market dominated by the likes of the Rush and BR-V by bringing in their own 7-seater small SUV.
India got the turbo-diesel option. Why not for the Philippine market Suzuki?
ReplyDeleteSuzuki has traditionally refrained from bringing their diesel variants here, starting with the Jimny and Ertiga. Probably the only diesel Zuks you'll find are the Super Carry vans with DDiS.
