This is Your First Look at the Upcoming All-New 2020 Yaris's Platform

After sitting on a platform that dates back two decades, Toyota is finally moving its sub-compact cars to a brand-new platform. Dubbed the GA-B platform, it’s expected to underpin the next-generation western market Yaris first, and other vehicles like the Vios in the near future.

The third platform in the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) family, the GA-B, like the larger GA-C (C-HR, Corolla Altis), and GA-K (Camry, RAV4), features advanced joining technologies that contribute to high levels of rigidity while keeping cost and weight down. It also positions the driver’s seat low and back towards the center of the car. This creates a lower center of gravity and a more engaging driving position.

Given that space is always at a premium with small cars, the GA-B is designed with packaging in mind. Its long wheelbase and short overhangs ensure that interior space isn’t compromised in anyway, despite the compact exterior dimensions. Moreover, not only can it fit a variety of transverse engines, but this front-wheel drive platform can also be electrified.

The GA-B also exhibits a high-level of modularity, giving Toyota the possibility of installing either a torsion beam or independent multi-link at the back (MacPherson Struts are used upfront), while also varying wheelbase, vehicle heights, and track widths.
