Porsche Design Opens New Boutique at Solaire
Porsche Design Manila formally opened its latest boutique located at The Shoppes at Solaire last October 2, 2019. Gracing the event and welcoming the guests were Porsche Design Asia-Pacific Sales Director, Ms. Nina Razali and Hans Clifford Yao, Managing Director of Porsche Design Manila.
During the formal opening ceremonies, Porsche Design Manila unveiled its 2019 Fall/Winter Collection and a specially curated display of classic and customized air-cooled 911 Porsches on loan from car collectors. The cars will be displayed at The Gallery, Solaire until this Saturday, October 12.
Porsche Design follows a clear design philosophy: optimize function—reduce the form right down to the essentials and to overcome the familiar to continually discover new and exceptional solutions. The same vision that inspired founder Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche to create the legendary Porsche 911 is built on the same principles that have driven Porsche Design since its founding.
As Porsche (the car company) became a joint stock company in the early 1970s, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche had to relinquish his position as head designer due to company by-laws. Because of this, he founded Porsche Design in Stuttgart in 1972.
The Porsche company was among the first to commission a project: a new timepiece to recognize the service of its long-time employees. The automobile manufacturer committed to the purchase of 20 watches per year. Ferdinand Alexander and his small team otherwise spent their time developing what they loved: timepieces and eyewear, pipes and typewriters—everyday objects with a new and interesting twist.
Since then, Porsche Design has come up with new innovations, each exemplifying the design tradition of the brand. Among the many Porsche Design milestones were the release of the first Aviator Sunglasses in 1978, the innovative TecFlex ballpoint pen in 1999, the Bounce S shoe in 2009, the PD P’9981 smartphone in 2011, and the first PD Book One laptop in 2017.
Commemorating the opening of the new Porsche Design boutique, four iconic Porsche models are on display: the 1968 Porsche 911 Targa, the 1974 Porsche 911 Safari, the 1983 Porsche 911 SC RS, and the 1992 RWB “Noah” Porsche 911.
