Hyundai Will Now Use Speakers to Quell Road Noise
Hyundai will be the first carmaker to use active road noise cancelation thanks to a partnership with Harman. The wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics will roll out Road-Noise Active Noise Control or RANC on the Genesis GV80 SUV first.
With car buyers demanding sharper handling and better fuel efficiency, conventional NVH methods may significantly add to a vehicle’s weight. The solution, Harman says is RANC. The RANC control processor uses signals received from acceleration sensors placed strategically along the suspension and chassis to predict noise transferred into the cabin and to generate an anti-noise wave in real-time. The system generates the anti-noise within milliseconds, thereby preventing any unwanted noise from reaching the occupants’ ears.
The RANC system is the result of years of research and continuous development, bringing together the expertise of Hyundai and Harman. The GV80 is the first SUV from Hyundai’s premium brand, Genesis which is based off the Hyundai Palisade platform.
