Don't Adjust Your Screens: This Sportscar is an All-New 2021 Model

Don’t adjust your screens. Don’t tell us it’s a typo, either. This here is the Morgan Plus Four, and despite its retro-look, it’s a 2021 model. Considered as Morgan’s core model—the Plus Four replaces the Plus 4 (yes, they’re different according to the carmaker), a car that on its own has been in production for 70 years.

For 2021, the Plus Four swaps out its traditional steel ladder chassis for a bonded aluminum one. It may have more or less the same footprint as the previous Plus 4, but the Plus Four brings with it increased interior room and luggage space. Ingress and egress have also been dramatically improved. Platform aside, the Plus Four also has a redesigned suspension, brakes, and get this—15-inch wire wheels! The wheels, which are part of the Morgan trademark look actually required extensive development work.

Under the hood, the Morgan uses a BMW-sourced 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine. It’s the first time a Morgan gets a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and even an 8-speed automatic gearbox. In this setup, it makes 255 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. With a dry weight of just 1,009 kilograms, 100 km/h arrives in just 4.8 seconds, while top speed is 240 km/h. A 6-speed manual is also available. It’s slightly heavier at 1,013 kilograms and for that, its 100 km/h time drops to 5.2 seconds.

The Plus Four also has, for the first time in a Morgan, automatic LED front and rear lighting, anti-lock brakes, in-car audio with Bluetooth, and gasp, even power steering. But despite all the high-tech stuff, the Plus Four continues to be built the traditional Morgan way. It’s built with a hand-made ash frame, hand-beaten aluminum panels, and hand-trimmed leather interior. The car maker says one trillion combinations are available.
