All-New Nissan Z, Refreshed Navara and Terra Due in Next 18 Months


As part of the four-year plan, Nissan Motor will take decisive action to transform its business by streamlining unprofitable operations and surplus facilities, alongside structural reforms. The company will also reduce fixed costs by rationalizing its production capacity, global product range, and expenses.

By implementing the plan, Nissan aims to achieve a 5 percent operating profit margin and a sustainable global market share of 6 percent by the end of fiscal year 2023.

Most important, Nissan wants to restore a culture of “Nissan-ness for a new era.”

Among the plans confirmed by the Japanese carmaker include the consolidation of its ASEAN manufacturing base to one location, Thailand, as well as the streamlining of operations across the region. It will also exit the South Korean market, close down the Datsun brand in Russia, and shutter its Barcelona plant in Western Europe.

Nissan also aims to rationalize its global product line-up by 20 percent—from the current 69 models to fewer than 55 models.

Still, Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida promises that the Japanese carmaker will roll out 12 models in the next 18 months as part of its “Nissan Next” program. This include both C and D segment vehicles, electric vehicles, as well as a brand-new Z sportscar. They also aim to sell more than 1 million electrified units by the end of Fiscal Year 2023.

During the presentation, Uchida, didn’t mention what these 12 models are, but later on, Nissan released a teaser video (check out the video below). Going through it frame by frame, it becomes easy to identify the promised 12 models:

Things are certainly getting exciting for Nissan in the next 18 months.
