It's Been 25 Years Since McLaren Won Le Mans, So They've Celebrating It With This

It’s hard to imagine, but it’s been 25 years since McLaren shocked the world with a victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Commemorating that achievement, McLaren Automotive is coming up with a limited edition 720S.

In 1995, the #59 McLaren F1 GTR scored an impressive win at the endurance race, ensuring McLaren a place in motorsports history as winners of the Formula 1 World Championship, Indianapolis 500, and of course, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

This special 720S is limited to just 50 worldwide and comes with a special combination of colors, dedication plate, and a VIN that begins with ‘298’ recognizing the number of laps completed by the race-winning F1 GTR.

The 720S Le Mans, as McLaren Automotive officially calls it, comes in a choice of two exterior colors: McLaren Orange or Sarthe Gray. Regardless of color, “Ueno Gray” is placed as a secondary color on the lower side, rear bumper, and lower front bumper. It also receives unique 5-spoke LM wheels gold-colored brake calipers, and a gloss-black roof scoop.

Inside, Dove Gray or McLaren Orange are available accent colors. Regardless, the 720S Le Mans gets carbon fiber racing seats, embroidered special logos, and a steering wheel marker at the 12 o’clock position.

Power from the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 remains unchanged at 720 horsepower, but McLaren says the roof scoop is functional in providing additional cooling for the powertrain.
