After postponing the implementation of the Modified Number Coding Scheme from June 1 to 5, 2020, the MMDA says it’s now all systems go starting Monday, June 8 (UPDATED: Due to the lack of public transportation options, it has been canceled again; except for Makati).

Similar to the UVVRP or number coding scheme, it bans the use of vehicles based on the last digit of the plate number or conduction sticker from 7 AM to 8 PM:

• 1-2: Mondays
• 3-4: Tuesdays
• 5-6: Wednesdays
• 7-8: Thursdays
• 9-0: Fridays

That said, given the limitation of public transportation under GCQ, the MMDA released Regulation 2020-001 series of 2020 adding some exemptions from the number coding scheme. These are:

• All private vehicles provided that: a) there are two or more passengers including the driver; b) physical distancing is strictly observed; and c) all passengers shall wear face masks.
• Owner-driven or self-driven private motor vehicles of doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel.

The regulation was unanimously approved by all the mayors of the seventeen local government units of Metro Manila during the last Metro Manila Council meeting held on May 26, 2020 via video conference.
