Making history, Philippine-made big bikes will finally roll out of a local assembly line. The announcement was made, appropriately on Independence Day by KTM Asia Motorcycle Manufacturing, Inc. (KAMMI) which formalized the roll out of the KTM 790 Duke and 790 Duke Adventure at its Laguna plant.

Since the 790 Duke global launch in early 2019, the local motorcycle community has been abuzz with rumors and clamor for big bikes to be locally-made, with the anticipation of making it more affordable and accessible to Filipino riders, especially those seeking their next upgrade.

Previously, import duties heavily restricted the supply of big bikes across the ASEAN region. KTM’s investment into the facility in the Philippines will ensure its share in the promising large displacement bike segment.

The KAMMI plant will assemble the 800-cc parallel twin platform motorcycles at its state-of-the-art factory in Laguna, and will export them to other ASEAN countries. This is the largest displacement motorcycle ever produced in the country.

“It’s the ultimate dream for KTM Philippines to build world-class motorcycles. After only three years of KAMMI operation, our factory will produce the 790 CKD Family line (790 Duke, 790 Adventure and 790 Adventure) for the domestic and the ASEAN markets.

Like many, our business was not spared by the pandemic crisis, but fortunately our export demands continue to keep us moving forward. Today, the export markets contribute around 80 percent of the factory output. This gives us pride that the Filipino is building motorcycles for Asia.

On the local front, this industry breakthrough makes our motorcycles priced more competitively, and more Filipinos can now be proud owners of KTM in the country. Owning a KTM would also mean supporting our local automotive industry,” says Dino Santos, President and COO of KAMMI.

The Philippine-made KTM bikes will be offered at significantly affordable prices:

• 2020 KTM 790 Duke: P 599,000 (from P 820,000)
• 2020 KTM 790 Adventure: P 699,000 (from 883,000)
• 2020 KTM 790 Adventure R: P 749,000 (from P 957,000)

Aside from building and distributing KTM motorcycles, Ayala is also acting as the distributor of Husqvarna motorcycles as well.
