After a short tease, Hyundai has finally launched the new 2021 Santa Fe—an enhanced version of its three-row mid-sized SUV including the use of an all-new platform for improved performance, efficiency, and safety.
Marking the 20th anniversary of the nameplate, the 2021 Santa Fe is much more striking with its wide grille now embracing the main headlights. It also gets T-shaped LED DRLs that double as the turn signal indicators. It also boasts of wider wheel arch claddings and new alloy wheel designs including a 20-inch option. And for the first time, Hyundai is offering a “Luxury Package” which swaps the matte black cladding to body-colored ones.
Inside, the 2021 Santa Fe gets a dashboard swathed in soft-touch materials. It also gets a new lower dashboard design, a re-designed center console, full digital gauges, and a new 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen. The floating center console also houses a new shift-by-wire system with a push-button interface. For the first time, the new Santa Fe comes with a Terrain Mode selector: a control knob located in the center console to conveniently switch between different drive modes.
For its powertrain, the new Santa Fe benefits from the new Smartstream engine family. Exact specifications will be revealed at a later time, but options will include both hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.
The 2021 Santa Fe is also the first Hyundai SUV to be underpinned by the all-new third-generation platform.
The platform is actually designed to control the flow of air enhancing not just powertrain cooling, but high-speed stability and comfort. The platform also boasts of a lower center of gravity and lower weight improving both fuel efficiency and performance.
The fixed points for the steering arms have been positioned closer to the middle of the front wheels, allowing for more agile handling. Meanwhile, noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) performance is improved through reinforced sound-absorbing systems in vibration-sensitive parts.
The new 2021 Santa Fe will roll out as early as September 2020.
