MG is set to introduce the third-generation, 2021 MG 6 compact sedan in the coming weeks, and the brand owned by China-based SAIC has just given the world its first glimpse.
Shown off by SAIC Design Center and Global Design Director Shao Jingfeng, the 2021 MG 6 is still based off the second-generation MG 6 which made its world debut way back in 2010. Still MG officially calls it the third-generation model and for that, will feature the brand’s “New Surging Wave” design.
The 2021 MG 6 also sees a much sharper front-end, characterized by a “digital flame” grille. The headlights and bumper have also been tweaked too. Meanwhile, to highlight the MG 6’s fastback styling, it’s now fitted with a raised spoiler. Darkened taillights, exposed oval tailpipes, and new 18-inch alloy wheels complete the transformation.
Inside, the 2021 MG 6 goes for a “sport digitalized” cabin. The main highlight is the infotainment system. It’s a 10-.1-inch touchscreen display that’s made to float on the top of the dashboard. The interface also looks to be new. This is also the case with the center console which sprouts an electronic-type shifter and new metallic-looking accents. The instrument cluster also shows off full digital instrumentation, while the flat-bottomed steering wheel looks to house selectable driving modes.
For the top-end Trophy model, the 2021 MG 6 is set to get one-piece sport bucket seats. Yellow highlights on the seats, dashboard, and center console are also present to break the seriousness of the all-black cabin.
Though unconfirmed officially, the 2021 MG 6 is said to benefit from more power with the 166-horsepower 1.5-liter tubocharged engine being bumped up to an even 180 horsepower making it even more powerful than the Honda Civic RS Turbo. The transmission is said to remain a 7-speed wet-type dual clutch.
