Dodge Just Shoved the Supercharged 6.2-liter V8 into Their Durango SUV
Dodge is at it again—this time giving its Durango SUV the Hellcat treatment. The result? An SUV that can run to 100 km/h in about 3.5 seconds and a quarter mile in 11.5 seconds.
Designed to push the boundaries of what an SUV can be, the 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat shoehorns a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 generating some 710 horsepower and 874 Nm of torque. This mated to an 8-speed automatic with driver-selectable modes and all-wheel drive. Announcing its performance credentials to passersby, the exhaust system has also been tuned to deliver a throaty, aggressive sound. The changes include a 260-mm crossover X-pipe—the largest X-pipe in the entire SRT line-up.
To let the engine breathe better and add downforce, the 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat receives a new front end, chin spoiler, engine oil cooler duct, and air guide and snorkel for cold air induction. At the back, a unique spoiler improves downforce by 400 percent at 290 km/h.
Helping the top-heavy SUV stay planted, the Durango SRT Hellcat also features an upgraded suspension for less understeer, more responsiveness, and increased stability. At all four corners are Brembo brakes with 6-piston calipers at the front and 4-piston calipers at the back.
Aside from the introduction of a SRT Hellcat variant, the rest of the 2021 Durango family gets aesthetic changes. Capturing cues from the Charger widebody, they all get a new front fascia with LED headlights, sculpted hood grille, and rear spoiler. All 2021 Durangos also benefit from a larger infotainment system—10.1 inches powered by the Uconnect 5 system.
Given the penchant for distributor Auto Nation Group for bringing in Hellcat models, it’s not going to be surprising that they’ll opt to bring in a couple of examples of the Durango SRT Hellcat, at least to complete their “brotherhood of muscle” line-up.
