Foton Rips Off Ford F-150 Raptor with the "Big General"
As far as Chinese car brands go, Foton is one of the more decent ones. They’ve made in-roads here in the Philippines for their commercial vehicle line-up, and in fact, for the past two years has been in the Top 10 or Top 11 best-selling brands (depending if you count MG Philippines’s miraculously appearing numbers). Suffice to say, they’re not immune to the entire copycat thing. Meet the Foton Big General—a rather blatant copy of the Ford F-150 Raptor.
Reported by U.S.-based website Jalopnik, the Foton Da Jiang Jun aka “Big General” takes heavy inspiration from Ford’s all-conquering Baja pickup truck.
Of course, the Foton Big General isn’t powered by an EcoBoost gasoline engine. Instead, tractive effort is provided by either a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline or 2.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The engine is mated to, interestingly, an 8-speed manual (yes, a manual) transmission (some sources though claim it is a more plausible 8-speed automatic).
According to Jalopnik, even Chinese netizens aren’t too happy with the Foton Big General, earning spite because of its blatant trace of the Ford F-150 Raptor. It’s a sign, perhaps, that Chinese car buyers are increasingly become more sophisticated.
