2021 Mazda3 Turbo Confirmed to Make 227 Horsepower, 420 Nm of Torque
The leak has been proven correct: the turbocharged 2021 Mazda3 will make 227 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. The figures have been confirmed by no less than Mazda Mexico’s own official YouTube account (link here).
In the video, Mazda Mexico’s regional president Miguel Barbeyto goes through the specs detailing that this turbocharged Skyactiv-G engine is paired exclusively to a 6-speed automatic driving all four wheels. Now, if the engine seems familiar, it should be: it’s the same Skyactiv-G 2.5T Dynamic Pressure Turbo engine found in the Mazda6 and CX-9. And if that is the case, these figures rise to 250 horsepower and 434 Nm of torque when using premium fuel.
Despite the added power, Mazda isn’t going all out and calling this a Mazdaspeed model. Instead, it sticks to the same naming convention as its normally-aspirated sibling, and will be made available in two trim models: Grand Touring and Signature.
The feature set of the turbocharged Mazda3 is very close to the non-turbo version: 18-inch wheels, sunroof, 12-speaker Bose sound system, and more. A sedan version is said to follow in 2021, at least for the Mexico market.
For those who are curious, the turbocharged motor commands a 60,000 Mexican Peso premium or about 133,000 Philippine pesos when comparing it with the non-turbo Grand Touring.
