Mercedes-Benz PH Takes Aim at BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe with 2020 A 180 AMG Line
Mercedes-Benz Philippines is taking aim at the recently launched BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe by announcing the availability of its entry-level A-Class sedan in AMG Line trim.
The A 180 AMG Line comes with the AMG line’s signature diamond radiator grille with chrome pins and a single silver-painted louver. A unique front apron with chrome front splitter, side sill panels, rear apron with chrome trim, and visible tailpipes complete the package. Further announcing its sportiness is the standard five-spoke 18-inch AMG alloy wheels.
Inside, the A 180 AMG Line comes with a Nappa-covered 3-spoke flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel and a combination Artico man-made leather and Dinamica microfiber seats. As with other new modern Mercedes-Benz vehicles, it comes with the MBUX infotainment system integrating both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into its 7-inch touchscreen-based system.
Despite the A 180 model designation, this car is powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine making 136 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. The sole transmission option available is a 7-speed dual clutch automatic.
For the Philippine market, the A 180 AMG Line comes standard with the “Light and Sight” package which provides additional interior value appeal as well as optimum visibility. It comprises functional comfort-and-safety-enhancing lighting, as well as ambient lighting that lends the interior even more atmosphere.
It also comes with Attention Assist wherein the vehicle can detect the onset of drowsiness based on steering behavior and can alert the driver to an impending micro sleep. In addition, it can warn you of an impending collision, support you when braking and taking evasive action or bring the vehicle to a standstill in emergencies with Active Brake Assist feature.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz A 180 AMG Line is priced at P 2,790,000. For those keeping score, this is P 200,000 less than the similarly-sized and powered BMW 218i Gran Coupe.
