The Ford Ranger Wildtrak X Blurs the Line with the Ranger Raptor
Ford is blurring the lines between the Ranger Wildtrak and the Ranger Raptor with the Wildtrak X variant. Returning for the Australian market, the Wildtrak X adds P 210,000 worth of add-ons (AUD 6,000) for just P 70,000 (AUD 2,000).
Like the previous Wildtrak X, it adds unique 18-inch matte black alloy wheels with a +35 offset, black fender flares, and an A-pillar-mounted snorkel. New for this year is a black nudge bar with LED lighting.
Unique to the Wildtrak X is its power roller shutter for the cargo area. For 2021, the new roller shutter gets a new design with an 80 mm increase in opening length between the canister and tailgate. The sleeker design also enables an increase of 20mm in height clearance over the current shutter, for greater load space flexibility. For convenience, it can be activated three ways: via the key fob, a dash-mounted switch, or from a button within the Wildtrak X’s tub.
The question now is: would it be possible to bring the Wildtrak X in?
In Australia, the Ranger Raptor retails for AUD 77,190 (P 2.695 million). With the Wildtrak selling for AUD 65,790 (P 2.29 million), they could easily find the breathing room to fit in the Wildtrak X. It is worth noting that Thailand also carries the Wildtrak X. Locally, the difference in price is more or less the same with a P 303,000 spread between the Ranger Raptor and the Wildtrak 4x4. Assuming Ford Philippines wouldn’t mind a bit of cannibalization between the two, it’s still entirely possible for them to bring in this accessorized Wildtrak variant.
