The Corolla Cross uses a 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE engine paired to a CVT transmission. The internal combustion engine makes 98 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. Paired to an electric motor, it makes an additional 72 horsepower and 163 Nm of torque. Total system output is rated at 122 horsepower. With a Ni-MH battery, it’s said to do around 23.3 km/L.
Alongside this hybrid option, Toyota Motor Philippines will also bring in the normal 1.8-liter variant. This 2ZR-FBE makes 140 horsepower and 177 Nm of torque also paired to a CVT gearbox.
Both versions drive the front wheels solely.

The Corolla Cross is underpinned by the TNGA GA-C platform shared with its sedan counterpart. For use in this crossover though, the independent rear suspension has been swapped for a torsion beam axle. Regardless, it promises enhanced agility and comfort thanks to its highly rigid body structure and low center of gravity. It also promotes excellent visibility.
The 2021 Corolla Cross makes its Philippine debut on August 20 with prices expected to start at around P 1.3 million. It will top out at P 1.6 million for the Hybrid. The Hybrid is rumored to be the only one to get Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) and more luxury amenities like leather seats.
