The 2021 Hyundai i30 N adds 5 horsepower and 39 Nm of torque to its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine now delivers 280 horsepower (with the Performance Package) enough for a 250 km/h top speed and a 0-100 km/h sprint of 5.9 seconds—a 0.2 seconds or 3 percent improvement over the previous model.

Mated to the engine is a new wet-type 8-speed dual clutch automatic. The move to a two-pedal set-up has enabled Hyundai engineers to integrate three performance functions—N Grin Shift which releases maximum power of the engine and transmission for 20 seconds; N Power Shift which mitigates any torque reduction during upshifts; and N Track Sense Shift which automatically senses dynamic driving and selects the optimal shift timing.

As with the current i30 N, the 2021 model has an electronically controlled suspension. However, it’s been retuned resulting in improved ride and handling characteristics. The Performance Package adds an electronically controlled limited slip differential and larger front disc brakes as well.

Weight savings are attributed to the new 19-inch forged alloy wheels and lightened sport seats.

Aside from the usual smartphone connectivity, the i30 N adds a Performance Driving Data System. This feature saves and displays driving data, including information on power, torque, and turbo boost. It also includes a lap and acceleration timer, which comes in handy on the track.

So far, the Hyundai i30 N has been confirmed for a release in selected markets such as Europe. Its sister car, the Veloster N is destined for other markets such as North America. The Veloster N was made available on a by-order basis locally before Hyundai Philippines stopped the program.
