When Mazda showed the all-new, D-Max-based 2021 BT-50 last June, it was lacking in mechanical detail. While they did mention what the powertrain was and some key specs like payload being in excess of 1,000 kilograms, it didn’t have the sort of specs that off-road enthusiasts would be looking out for.

In a lead up to its launch in its first global market, Australia, the carmaker has finally revealed all the mechanical details of the BT-50, and here it is for your perusal:

• Its dimensions are: 5,265 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width, and 1,785 mm in height. Wheelbase is at 3,125 mm.
• Powertrain across all variants is a 3.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel with a maximum of 190 horsepower. Torque is at 450 Nm, provided from 1,600-2,800 rpm.
• Whether mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, Mazda says its combined city/highway fuel economy figure is at 12.98 km/L for 4x2 variants. Opting for 4x4, the figure is down slightly to 12.5 km/L for the 6-speed AT (the 6-speed MT retains the same 12.98 km/L figure).
• It has undergone a weight-saving program, saving up to 50 kilograms over its predecessor (Mazda has not given what those curb weights are though, but leaked documents reveal them to be between 1,890 to 1,990 kilograms).
• Braked towing capacity is set at 3,500 kilograms, while unbraked towing is at 750 kilograms.
• Maximum payload is variant dependent but ranges from a low of 1,055 kilograms to a high of 1,106 kilograms.
• Approach angle is again dependent on the variant, but ranges from 23.9 degrees to 25.3 degrees. Ditto its ramp over angle which is between 23.3 degrees to 23.9 degrees.
• Maximum water wading depth? 800 millimeters while ground clearance is set at 235 mm for models equipped with the smaller 17-inch alloy wheels and 240 mm for those equipped with the 18-inch alloy wheels.
• Speaking about 4x4, these models receive a Locking Rear Differential (LRD) as standard.
• As for convenience features, it’s very clear that Mazda’s aiming more towards the premium pickup segment with the base model already getting LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, and a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 
• The mid-grade version adds dual zone climate control with rear vents, LED exterior lighting, 18-inch wheels, and a 9-inch infotainment system.
• The top-trim is the only one that gets front parking sensors, a powered driver’s seat, and brown leather upholstery.

According to sources in Mazda Philippines, they will not be launching the all-new BT-50 any time soon (blame the pandemic). Regardless, to keep its pickup truck customers happy, they are continuing their discount offers throughout the month.
