Peugeot Launches High-Performance Division

In time for its 210th anniversary, Peugeot introduced its very own high-performance brand: Peugeot Sport Engineered. And in typical French fashion, they’ve decided to carve their own path by combining plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology and all-wheel drive to give its cars additional oomph.

In a world where kilowatt is king, the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered combines an internal combustion engine with not one, but two electric motors. With one located at each axle, this has given it all-wheel capability. For truly spirited driving, it makes 360 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h arrives in just 5.2 seconds, while the all important 80 to 120 km/h overtaking speed is done in just 3 seconds. Terminal velocity is governed at 250 km/h.

Available in both sedan and wagon versions, the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered gets widened front and rear tracks, larger front brakes with 4-piston calipers, and 20-inch wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The suspension and steering system are fine-tuned by Peugeot Sport engineers for heightened driving pleasure.

The 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered can run on pure electric mode for about 42 kilometers, while charging can take about 7 hours using a standard domestic socket.

Inside, the Peugeot i-Cockpit gets a racier treatment with three “Kryptonite” claws on the compact steering wheel. It also features a lower seating position, a mix of Nappa leather and Alcantara on the seats with heat and massage functions, full-digital instrumentation, and a Focal high-fidelity audio system.

The 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered gets its very own flavor with the same Kryptonite color on the front air intakes and quarter panels.

The launch of Peugeot’s high-performance division coincides with the brand’s return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the newly-minted hypercar division starting in 2022.
