MG is taking its performance positioning quite seriously and case in point is its all-new MG 5 compact sedan.
Leaked a few months ago, MG has now officially shown its latest compact sedan. Choosing a not-so-sedate shade of yellow for its image color, the 2021 MG 5 takes on the brand’s “third-generation family design,”—the same one seen on the refreshed MG 6 and MG Pilot.
The second-generation MG 5 rides on the same wheelbase (2,680 mm). However, at 4,675 mm long, 1,842 mm wide, and 1,480 mm tall, it’s now slightly longer and wider than a Toyota Corolla Altis.
The 2021 MG 5’s sporty, coupe-like roofline is backed up by a pair of potent 1.5-liter engines—a normally-aspirated version making 120 horsepower and, get this, a turbocharged version making 173 horsepower. The latter should make it a formidable challenger to the Civic RS Turbo.
As with other MG models, it’ll be filled to the brim with convenience features such as push-start ignition, a large infotainment system, digital gauges, and more.
Bigger than an Altis. One thing going for MG is it's brand. It's British. People will look beyond the fact that it's actually Chinese even if they knew. The primary reason is the price and the value for money proposition. Toyota got a formidable brand to fight now.
ReplyDeleteDoes MG even plan on bringing that to the PH market? If not, what's the point? It's just another vehicle Pinoys can't have.

ReplyDeleteCar manufacturers look down on philippine car market as not profitable for their more powerful variants. They bombard us with underpowered base models that are not even sold anymore in other parts of the world. Take for example the bmw 318i, mercedez benz c180, mazda cx5 non-turbo model. These three are not being offered in the west and east.
ReplyDelete... and then, kia offers the stonic with 95 hp and 130nm... what a joke...
ReplyDeleteAm waiting for this. Hope it gets here in midyear 2021.
ReplyDeleteNeed to test drive this soon. Perhaps an alternative to the Honda Civic E and Toyota Altis G
