After showing it in concept form at the Tokyo Auto Salon in 2018, Toyota and its motorsports division, Gazoo Racing (GR) has shown what the road-going version hypercar could look like.
Driven at its spiritual home—the Circuit de la Sarthe, the development version of the GR Super Sport completed a demonstration lap before participating in the ceremony to return the Le Mans trophy for the 88th Le Mans 24 Hours.
For its appearance at the race, the GR Super Sport development model was customized as a convertible and finished in a special GR camouflage livery.
The GR Super Sport hypercar is closely related to the Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 hybrid. In the concept version, it mates a 2.4-liter twin-turbo V6 with a performance hybrid system. All in all, it’s said to develop 1,000 horsepower.
More importantly, the GR Super Sport epitomizes Toyota and Gazoo Racing’s commitment to use motorsport to make ever-better road cars for the enjoyment of customers, and it symbolizes the ever-closer relationship between Toyota Gazoo Racing race and road car products.
