With the Hilux, and very soon, the Fortuner getting some timely updates, the last member of Toyota’s IMV family is slated to get a refresh very soon as well. Making its way around the internet is this: our first clearest look at the 2021 Innova.
Toyota promised a stronger, more “SUV-like” look for the Innova, and the result is something that definitely bears close resemblance to the recently-launched Hilux. Still, compared to the updates we’ve seen in its SUV and pickup siblings, it’s much more subtle over here.
The changes are limited to the front clip where the 2021 Innova gains a larger, more prominent grille. The triangular lights seen at the trailing edge of the bumper are now purely the turn signal indicators, as the fog lights (LED on higher-end variants) have been moved to the bottom part of the bumper. Aside from that, it gets a new design for its 16-inch wheels featuring a de rigueur two-tone finish. The rear looks completely unchanged from before.
Now, unlike the Fortuner and the Hilux, the changes to the Innova are skin deep. Sources say it’ll stay mechanically the same, and will still be offered with either a 2.0-liter gasoline engine making 136 horsepower and 183 Nm of torque, or a 2.8-liter diesel making 171 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque.
In terms of features, the 2021 Innova will stay relatively the same with the exception of a new infotainment system, additional front clearance sensors (at least for the higher-end variants), and a rear parking camera.
