Looks Like We'll Have to Wait Longer for the All-New Nissan X-Trail

The wait for the all-new Nissan X-Trail will have to be longer as the Japanese carmaker just released a refreshed version of the current version for its home market of Japan. Though the changes are purely aesthetic, they do a lot to modernize the look and feel of Nissan’s compact SUV.

Hitting showrooms there in November, the 2020 X-Trail swaps all the exterior chrome bits for high-gloss black ones. This is seen in the V-motion grille, lower portion of the bumpers (both front and back), as well as the back door garnish. The same goes for the alloy wheels which are now finished in a dark color. The door handles, meanwhile, are body-colored. Inside, the latest edition of the X-Trail adds power seats for the front occupants as standard while the shift knob is now covered in genuine leather.

Mechanically, the X-Trail retains the same powerplants. In Japan, it gets a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder (MR20DD) available in both conventional internal combustion and gasoline-electric hybrid flavors.

Interestingly, this update does see a slight adjustment in price. According to Nissan, the 4WD version in particular sees changes in specifications while still being made “more affordable.”

While it remains to be seen whether the Philippines will receive the same sort of aesthetic updates for the X-Trail (we do get our supply of X-Trails from Japan), it is highly likely that we will skip this very minor refresh and go straight for the all-new model.
