The Hummer is Back as a 1,000-Horsepower Super Truck

The Hummer is moving away from its gas-guzzling past with this: the GMC Hummer EV. A first-of-its-kind super truck, it’s the first fully electric pickup truck in General Motors’s line-up and combines a next-generation EV propulsion tech with extraordinary performance both on and off road.

The Hummer EV will get its energy from General Motors’ sall-new Ultium batteries and power from Ultium Drive, GM’s proprietary EV drive units. A GM-estimated best-in-class 1,000 horsepower and GM-estimated 15,591 Nm of torque are generated by three separate motors within two Ultium drive units to give it remarkable on- and off-road capabilities.

Not only that, but the Hummer EV supports 800-volt fast-charging up to 350 kilowatts. This means, it can add 100 miles (160 kilometers) of range in as little as 10 minutes. Moreover, GM says it can go 350 miles (563 kilometers) on a single full charge.

Backing up its off-road capabilities, the Hummer EV has an unberbody armor, consisting of sturdy steel plates that are strategically located around the battery pack and more to help provide protection in extreme off-roading conditions. It also rides on fully independent suspension with adaptive air shock absorbers. They not only provide continuous damping adjustments for comfort, but they have a height adjustment range of 6 inches or 152 mm. It even comes with an “Extract Mode” which raises suspension height by 149 mm helping to clear extreme off-road situations including 18-inch (457 mm) climbs/drops and 610 mm of water.

If that’s not enough, owners will be able to easily accommodate more clearance. Though it comes standard with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, engineers say it can easily accommodate aftermarket 37-inch tires. Moreover, it offers four-wheel steering with Crab Mode for diagonal driving, 18 camera views with sprayers, and detailed displays concerning everything from torque output, torque vectoring, to vehicle angles on the infotainment screen.

Speaking of its infotainment screen, the GMC Hummer EV will have a giant 13.4-inch screen paired with a fully-digital 12.3-inch instrument display.

As the fully-loaded Edition 1, the Hummer EV also gets removable roof panels which can be stowed in the front cargo area when not in use, a MultiPro tailgate with a flip down step, and multiple closed positions for different uses.

The Hummer EV will the built at GM’s Factory Zero in Detroit, Michigan. The nearly 40-year old facility was repurposed and retooled to become GM’s EV production hub. The sole Hummer EV Edition 1 starts production for the U.S. market by late next year with prices starting at USD 112,595 (about P 5.4 million).
