As far as refreshes go, the Innova didn’t get the same amount of attention as its IMV brethren—the Fortuner and Hilux. Still, Toyota went for a decidedly more SUV-like look for their MPV giving it a larger grille and re-shaped bumper. The front turn signal indicators have also been pushed to the sides, while the fog lamps pushed to the lower part. Other changes include new side mirrors, and new designs for its 16 or 17-inch wheels. 

The SUV-inspired appearance goes further with the new Venturer variant. It adds a unique front grille, rear spoiler, license plate garnish, and body cladding. 17-inch wheels and tires come standard as well.

For the Indonesian market, the 2021 Innova drops the orange-colored seat for a classier new brown one along with darker wood grain trim. Also new is the infotainment system (up to 9 inches in the upper trims) with Miracast and smartphone connectivity. Selected variants also have a rear entertainment system with Near Field Communications (NFC) technology as well as a integrated air purifier.

In terms of powertrain, the 2021 Innova remains unchanged. Power still comes from a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, and at least for the Indonesian market, a 2.4-liter diesel unit (the Philippines will likely continue with a detuned version of the 2.8-liter diesel).

Safety-wise, the 2021 Innova comes with a rear parking camera for the first time along with the usual myriad of airbags (up to 7), ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control with hill start assist.

The 2021 Innova starts its sale in Indonesia today. With the best-selling MPV being assembled by Toyota Motor Philippines in Santa Rosa, Laguna, it’s highly likely that its launch will be delayed to early next year. If the timing is consistent with previous Innovas, expect it to appear sometime early next year (likely by February).
