Now one of the oldest offerings in the mid-sized SUV segment, Ford just gave its Everest SUV a nip-and-tuck for 2021 to fend off the newest arrivals from Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Isuzu.
Let’s start first with what we like: the powertrain. For 2021, Ford has finally discontinued its long-serving 2.2-liter DuraTorq diesel engine. This means, the 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel engine is now standard across the entire Everest line-up. The 4x2 versions, including the Trend, now sports the single-turbo version making 180 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, while the 4x4 versions continue on with the twin-turbo with 213 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. In both cases, they’re mated to a 10-speed automatic.
Now, let’s get to the stuff which we don’t like: that new front styling. One of the best-looking 7-seater PPVs (pickup-based passenger vehicle) in the market, Ford is faced with increased competition from the likes of the refreshed Fortuner, Montero Sport, and all-new mu-X. Their answer? Add bling.
The 2021 Everest now dons the same mesh-like grille pattern first seen in the Everest Sport. Unlike its high-gloss finish on the Everest Sport, however, this one’s all chrome and blingy. Aside from the new maw, the refreshed model also gets “EVEREST” spelt out on its hood.
Of course, it’s best to pass final judgement when we get to see the 2021 Everest in person, but so far, it’s not looking good in photos.
Aside from the new grille and hood lettering, the 2021 Everest also adds the option of a Cognac-colored interior. Personally, this should be standard on all Everest models (it looks darn cool), but as it stands, Ford has opted to make it available only when Artic White is selected as exterior color, and only for the top-trim Titanium variants.
As for color choices, Deep Crystal Blue is now available for Titanium+ (it was previously an exclusive color for the Everest Sport).
The 2021 Everest is now on sale in Thailand, with the rest of the ASEAN markets, including the Philippines to get it during the first half of next year.
when is the all new version coming out?
