Jeep is bringing back the Willys name. Paying tribute to the first mass-produced four-wheel drive vehicle in the world—the Willys MB from World War 2, the modern-day Willys isn’t an all-new model, but a trim variant for their 2021 Gladiator pickup truck. With the Willys variant having already proven itself popular with the Wrangler last year, it’s only natural for Jeep to extend that to the Gladiator as well.
The Gladiator Willys edition takes a Sport S trim and adds a limited-slip differential, Rubicon cab rock rails and shocks, and 32-inch BF Goodrich KM2 mud-terrain tires. These, along with the standard Command-Trac 4x4 part-time, two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio bolster its off-road capability.
The Gladiator Willys also gets special design cues with as a Willys hood decal, “heritage badges,” 17-inch alloy wheels, and all-weather floor mats.
The available sole engine is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 putting out 285 horsepower and 352 Nm of torque. It’s also Trail Rated meaning it can perform in a variety of off-road conditions identified by five key characteristics: traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation, and water wading.
The Gladiator Willys is now on sale but it remains an exclusive for the United States for now.
