Mazda Chose the Philippines to Globally Launch the 2021 MX-5

With over 853 units sold since 2014, the Philippines has been the biggest market for the MX-5 in Asia outside of Japan. Underscoring this significance for Mazda, the Japanese carmaker has chosen the Philippines as their launch point for the 2021 Mazda MX-5.

Coinciding with Mazda Philippines’s launch of its Build Your Personal MX-5, they have also revealed some details on what’s new with their two-seater sportscar.

Basically, it’s down to a revised color palette with Ceramic being retired. This leaves Artic White and Snow Flake White Pearl as the two remaining white color choices for the roadster. Meanwhile, Eternal Blue has also been discontinued in favor of a new blue color: Deep Crystal Blue.

Enthusiasts who follow the history of the MX-5 ND will know that Deep Crystal Blue was an exclusive color only offered on the Fiat 124 Spider. With the “Fiata” ending its production, this new color shade has now become part of the 2021 MX-5 ND’s official palette. It remains exclusive to the MX-5 for now, at least in the Philippines.

Color choices aside, the MX-5 will also gain high-gloss black 17-inch alloy wheels and a new brake pad material which produces less dust, and is more environmentally-friendly.

For the Philippine market, Mazda is also introducing a new premium-spec MX-5 equipped with a manual transmission. This brings formerly AT exclusive features such as leather seats, the 9-speaker Bose sound system, and Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) to the three-pedal version for the first time.

Aside from these small changes, the 2021 MX-5 is largely carried over from 2020. New features introduced early this year include a key fob design, emblems, and switchgear.

Prices for the 2021 Mazda MX-5 are as follows (final SRP depending on exterior color and interior material):
  • 2021 Mazda MX-5 Soft Top – P 1,980,000 to P 2,260,000
  • 2021 Mazda MX-5 RF – P 2,290,000 to P 2,390,000
  • 2021 Mazda MX-5 RF Club Edition – P 2,690,000
Despite the current economic slowdown brought upon by the pandemic, the MX-5 remains a strong seller for Mazda Philippines. In fact, they have managed to sell out their entire allocation of 24 100th Anniversary Edition MX-5 in just three weeks. In the past, Mazda Philippines sold out 30 units of the 30th Anniversary MX-5 and 25 units of the 25th Anniversary MX-5.
